Petsmart also offers grants; recently programs for spay/neuter, pit bull education, funding for the ASPCA's research on ID tags and lost pets, even assisting equine rescue organizations with accredidation, have all been funded through Petsmart Charities. Currently, applications are being accepted for grants to assist with feral cat spay/neuter and TNR (trap/neuter/return) programs, as well as others.
Rescue Waggin' program, found in many areas of the U.S., helps in relocating pets who may not stand a chance in the area they are in. By relocating them to shelters that can handle intake, more lives are saved, more pets eventually are adopted. Pedigree is a corporate sponsor for this program. Relocation is one of a three-pronged effort by the Rescue Waggin' program; the animals are transported from areas of high population/low demand, those same areas receive grants to assist with spay/neuter programs and developing the shelters there; funding and professional assistance is offered to improve the shelters for maximum results.
At times, Petsmart Charities also goes into action to help in disasters. The Emergency Relief Waggin' vehicle may be deployed, and help is offered in whatever way they can.
Supporting your local Petsmart may indeed be a very good thing; there is much that has been accomplished, and much more that surely will be, by the charitable arm of Petsmart. Our favorite animal rescue group holds their adoption events in these stores; we know just how much help they can be!
