We had the honor of interviewing Peggy about her new book, and wanted to share with you a few highlights here.
Your first book is Dieting with my Dog. What is different about The Dieting with my Dog Guide to Weight Loss and Maintenance?
Dieting with my Dog is a memoir about realizing that my dog and I were both overweight, and the story of how we motivated each other to eat healthy and get fit. It’s about the personal challenges of losing weight, and how the love of a dog can be part of the journey toward success.
The Dieting with my Dog Guide to Weight Loss and Maintenance is a companion how-to book. It contains practical tips, healthy snacks, and lots of activities and exercises you can do with your dog.
What is your favorite part of the book?
One of my favorite parts of the book is the section with activities that people do with their dogs. Annette from Snoopy’s Dog Blog tells you how to get started in running with your dog. Rosalyn from Sugar the Golden Retriever shares how she and Sugar climb stairs together. And Jessica from You Did What with Your Wiener introduces us to snowshoeing with dogs! And much more.
Did you learn anything new about losing weight and getting fit while writing this book?
Yes! I learned so much from others who are already active with their dogs. I used to think that all I could really do with my dog is walk, or throw the tennis ball. Now I am inspired to hike, swim, bike and even do gym workouts with my dogs.
What are some of the tips in the book?
- Line up a great support system.
-Instead of treats, substitute play time as a reward for your dog.
-Measure your dog’s food instead of using “one scoop.”
Remember, almost anything is more fun when you do it with your dog!
